Anhydrous Ammonia

Ammonia Anhydrous is a chemical compound formed by joining of two chemical, nitrogen and hydrogen. Its compound formula is NH3. Ammonia is majorly produced by Haber-Bosch process, in which the elements, nitrogen and hydrogen, are united at a temperature of 500 to 600 deg C and a pressure of approximately 2900 psi in the presence of a promoted iron catalyst. More then 80% of ammonia is used in fertilizer production. Density of ammonia gas in atmospheric pressure is just half over than air. Ammonia at ambient temperature and pressure is a colorless gas with a very pungent odor. It must be stored and transported under pressure at low temperature. The gas is strongly irritant/corrosive to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract and has toxic properties.

In India there are many companies manufacturing anhydrous ammonia and largest manufacturing capacity of anhydrous ammonia is by Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), Surat Gujarat.

Ammonia is toxic gas, but can be dissolved easily in water. At certain density in air (i.e. 15% to 28%), it will form flammable and explosive mixture. Proper care and safety procedures should be taken to control the leak of ammonia. Although ammonia itself is toxic, the exhaust gases from the combustion of ammonia and oxygen are not.

It is extremely important to follow proper handling and safety procedures when working with Anhydrous Ammonia.

Liquor Ammonia

Aqueous Ammonia is produced by dissolving anhydrous ammonia in water . By passing ammonia in water following reaction takes place: NH3(aq)+H2O(l)NH4+(aq)+OH(aq) and its chemical formula is NH4OH. The strength of aqueous ammonia depends on percentage of anhydrous ammonia passed in given water. The strength of an aqueous ammonia solution can be measured in: Percentage (%), Percentage weight/volume (% w/v), Percentage weight/weight of solution (% w/w), Percentage weight/weight of solution(%g/g) and Specific Gravity(S.G).

Specific gravity of aqueous ammonia varies depending on temperature of solution. Specific gravity is measured by Hydrometer and Baumé scale is a pair of hydrometer scales (also noted by degrees Baume, degrees Baumé; B°, Be°, Bé°, Baume). Hydrometer scale shows ratio of the density of the liquid to the density of water.

Aqueous Ammonia also known as ammonia water, ammonia solution, aqua ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, diluted ammonia and in India it is commonly known as liquor ammonia.

Aqueous Ammonia is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, inheriting water colour and ammonia property. It is an excellent acid neutralizer and its pH varies with concentration.

Verma Gases (India) Pvt. Ltd. Ankleshwar Gujarat has the largest manufacturing capacity for aqueous ammonia per day in India.

Demineralized Water (DMW)

Water is one of the most naturally available elements. It is also one of the most contaminated ones. A number of minerals readily dissolve into water. These have to be removed from the raw water, before it can be used for any industrial applications.

A demineraliser (DM) removes these minerals from the raw water by an ion-exchanges process. The process first exchanges the cations of the salts for hydrogen ions and then, exchanges the anions of the salts for the hydroxyl ions.

Chemically pure, demineralized water is ideal for use in a wide range of applications in industries.

Laboratory Reagent Water (L.R Water)

Reagent water is the most widely used analytical laboratory reagent.

The pretreatment of water involves purification through carbon filter, micron filters, reverse osmosis, electro deionization, ultra violet, water polishing and goes through final micron filtration.

Verma group manufactures Ultrahigh Aqua, Aqueous Ammonia in reagent water. Verma group have imported water filtration technology and filters from The U.S.

Ammonia/Chlorine Gas Safety Kit

Ammonia being Toxic in nature needs proper safety procedures to handle it. But even following safety procedures some time incidents do happen and handling ammonia leak with safety is a difficult task.

Ammonia is distributed in cylinders and bulk tanks /or tanker load.

Keeping leak control safety in mind Verma Gases have designed Ammonia / Chlorine Gas Safety Kit. It is designed to control and retrieve gas from ammonia cylinder and can be used to control leak for different capacity IS 3196 and IS 7680 (Indian Standards) and U.S DOT specified i.e. DOT 3A, DOT 3AA, DOT 3A480X, DOT 4AA480 DOT 3A, DOT 3A480X, DOT 4AA480 ammonia cylinders.

Safety kit can also control leak from IS 3196, US DOT 3A480 & 3AA480 Chlorine cylinders.
